All four senior Brighton sides have kept their unbeaten start to the season going with strong wins on the weekend.
The A Grade again led the way, smashing 4/466 in pursuit of Hope Valley’s 201. Following his 7/34 on day one, skipper Matt McInerney (pictured with Fin Bennett) blasted 101 not out from just 45 balls in an innings that included four 4s and nine 6s. He was joined on the century list by Matt Walmsley-Pace (105 not out) and the innings was well established by openers Joe Hack (91) and Jake Hartigan (71). Brighton stalwart Mark Howard also joined the party with 78 including 15 4s and a 6.
The B Grade notched up a hard-fought victory against Marion. Batting first, Damon Dermody (55) and Tom Marshall (64) top scored, helping us to a competitive total of 219.
Marion set about the chase solidly, making their way to 2/99 at one stage and looked in sight of victory at 6/183. James Reid again stepped up taking three of the last four wickets and catching the other as Marion was rolled for 199. Reid finished with four wickets for the second time in two matches.
With 305 on the board, thanks to 127 by Fin Bennett and 61 from Hayden Sekhon, the C grade were in an excellent position to win their match against Flinders Park after day one. The visitors scrambled their way to 226 on day two but the win was never in doubt. Young bowlers Lachy Ash (3/35), Henry Savage (3/19) and Patrick McGinn (2/58) led the way with the ball.
The one day side restricted Reynella to 8/123 from their 40 overs with Will Denton (2/13) and Nitin Jakhwal (2/14) the pick of the bowlers.
Openers Dean Chambers (55) and Rahim Ahmer (28) got the side off to a good start and the target was achieved six wickets down with five overs to spare.
